JOHN WAYNE’s The Quiet Man co-star Maureen O’Hara suffered a broken hand without a cast thanks to Duke on set. However, the actress wouldn’t put up with director John Ford’s appalling behaviour towards her when making the Oscar-winning 1952 classic. Nevertheless, he did convince her to improvise a line she initially refused to say so he could capture Wayne’s genuine surprise at the movie’s conclusion.
